On... Not All Time is Created Equal
Life is short and I could be dead by now. I am constantly reminded of that.
My father in law was diagnosed with prostate cancer back in about 2020 and passed away in the span of about 2 years time after going through chemotherapy and all available medical help at that time. Few years after that, sometime in 2023, I had blood in my urine after coming back from a jog. Needless to say, my fear immediately jumped to fear and comprehension of getting cancer. Thats what recency bias do to you. Your mind latch on to the nearest incident. I later found out, after doing CT scans and Ultra Sound that it was most likely an accident injury. It's 2 years after that incident. If it was cancer, I might have been dead by now.
The point of the story is not only that life is short but when your time is near, there is little you can do and it will be expensive to try. Medical costs will take a fortune. It may run up from ten's of thousands even to a hundred thousand. All of that just to keep you alive and breathing. The reason I think about this stuff a lot, is that I know I will get sick one day and when the time is near, how much money am I willing to fork out to extend my life? What is the cut off figure that I am willing to pay.
It seems like whatever we earn today is just to pay for our medical bills of the future. That is the paradox! Say you work very hard to earn a hundred thousand dollars a year. That may just be equal to extend your life for a year in the future. Basically, you're just trading your time/life now for your time/life in the future. Now the question is, which part of life do you choose? Remember that, not all time is created equal. A years life in your forties does not equal to a year in your seventies (especially if you're bed ridden).
Not all time is created equal. Sometimes I think, it's better to enjoy your life now than slave away to extend a year in the future.
